Volunteers from Aramark Healthcare+ and other lines of business gathered in Houston recently to put together backpacks full of school supplies, which were donated to more than 50 students in the community.

The event was organized by Keiara Kearns, Human Resources Coordinator, Aramark Healthcare+, and Chair of Aramark’s Leaders and Employees of African Descent (LEAD) employee resource group (ERG) South Hub, following a hurricane that impacted the Houston community in July.

“The spirit of giving back is engrained in our team and company culture. By coming together, we not only uplift others but enrich our lives with purpose and connection,” said Kearns. “It felt great to help local students and their families who may have been impacted by the storm get ready for the new school year.“

Volunteers packed backpacks with necessary school supplies at Boys & Girls Club of Greater Houston. Additional volunteers returned two weeks later to distribute the backpacks to local families and provide additional resources to kick off the new school year.

“In a time when the cost of school supplies and other goods are constantly increasing, this was a huge help for our 50 members and their families,” said Dominique Garcia, Jr., Development Manager - Corporate Engagement, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston. “It was a great experience working with the whole Aramark team. They were always very responsive, and the volunteers were amazing and excited to volunteer their time.”

“Aramark has a strong presence in the Houston area, and we support community projects throughout the year,” said Rachel Isbell, Human Resources Director, Aramark SeniorLIFE+, and Aramark Houston Star Team Lead. “Giving back to local students as they get ready to go back-to-school was just one more way we help build community.”

This marks the third consecutive year that Aramark volunteers and members of its LEAD, PRIDE, Impacto, and EMPOWER ERGs, are hosting back-to-school celebration events in more than 20 metropolitan areas across the U.S., Canada, Chile, and Ireland, in partnership with local nonprofit organizations.

These community service projects support a meaningful day of service that engages Aramark volunteers and provides necessary school supplies to communities the company serves. Read a recap of the impact volunteers made last year.
