Op Ed - Protecting Our Youth Service Providers is Paramount

As our local and national leaders respond to the public health and economic crises created by Covid-19, youth service providers in out-of-school time settings, such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston, will continue to play a critical role in the overall infrastructure supporting communities recovering from the educational and socioeconomic impacts of the pandemic. Workers serving in community-based centers, recreation programs, after-school programs, child care, and organized camps provide essential services (mentoring, enrichment, life skills) to early learners and K-12 students, and in turn, to their working parents and caregivers. 

In late December, Boys and Girls Clubs of America representatives addressed the Centers for Disease Control's advisory committee on immunization practices on behalf of Boys and Girls Clubs across the country, as well as 47 national youth development, child welfare, and youth education organizations, including the American Camp Association, YMCAs and Jewish Community Centers....
